In the last dozen years or so, a couple of things have happened which are alarming to me and should be alarming to all. I don’t see that happening though. What am I saying?
First the generation who actually lived through world war 2 has pretty much passed away and all of their experiences are lost. Anyone that lived during that time. Military, civilians, government workers all came out of the experience obsessed with the idea that no matter what, we could never let that happen again. And they made sure in their time, that it would not happen again .
Secondly,
At about the same time, the disappearance of the afore mentioned folks and the attitudes that helped prevent major wars for 70 years , we see the emergence of a new “smarter” generation who now talk about war and why we should consider it as a solution to world troubles .
The truly scary ones, you can actually find by viewing social media, who think that nuclear weapons might just be a good idea. And a manageable tool. Shockingly ( to me) more and more are talking about that and more and more are listening and pondering the thought of that. Since Russia invaded Ukraine, many think it a doable thing that we take on Russia militarily and
If necessary use “tactical” nuclear weapons to beat them .
This brings me to my point . We truly are missing what we call the greatest generation. Those who firsthand lived through world war 2 and were horrified to even ponder a repeat for any reason ever again. Their influence is gone now. Horrors.
That scares me. I read young people saying we should attack Russia and the ones that say when Putin threatens a nuclear response, oh he’s just bluffing. That’s a very dangerous attitude to take.
We are in a dangerous place. The obstacles to war having been lifted by passage of time and now the new thinking that war is not a bad thing (they have zero experience to base that sick talk) Nuclear rhetoric as well. Are we going to wake up one day and watch as civilization is wiped out in a couple hours? God help us as we go forward!!!
