Tuesday in Georgia 2:15 PM

Dear Diary:

Mostly back to normal after our weekend trip and today is a chill day for me. I've made the personal promise to myself to always write something. Every day. Does not require earth shattering content just me reporting on me.

My eye and knee wound are healing up nicely. Very skittish getting on and off my bicycle this morning. If I could mash myself up in the simple act of getting out of a parked car, I figure bicycling could be trouble. All went well however and I managed my 16 miles nicely. So life is back to normal here in the low country of Georgia.

Speaking of the low country ; If I may, a piece of civil war trivia:

Fact:  In late 1864, Union General Sherman having captured Atlanta, set his army marching across Georgia. His purpose was to show the confederacy that he could go anywhere and there wasn't a thing the South could do to stop him. So he did.  He proceeded to cut a wide swath of destruction between Atlanta and Savannah, the latter being captured on Christmas Day 1864. The south has never gotten over this.

Cool stuff:  Being a Civil War history buff. I had known about this march, but I did not know that my home here in this community was directly on Sherman's path. Years ago, I always thought it was cool because I lived in Pennsylvania 90 miles from the Gettysburg battle field. But now I'm  sitting where this march across Georgia happened. They ran right through the town, most of the local roads are still here. Right through my land actually. I'm tempted at times to dig some deep holes in my yard and see what the soldiers dropped as they passed through. Fascinating stuff.

Problem:  Many of my neighbors and most of the locals who have been here forever do not share my fascination. They are mad, they still hate and I am treated as a Yankee, now and forever. Detested. Some real nastiness from some of them. I don't care. If they cant get over this all more than a century later, that's just too bad. I do not take sides in the history of the civil war. There was plenty good and bad on both sides. I do not like these haters down here though. Real redneck knuckle draggers is how I would classify them. That's not very nice, but they really do harbor that hatred.

Oh well. I started this post with nothing to say and ended with my living directly on the path of a major Civil War movement. That's how my mind works.

Until Next Time.
