School Memories

Recently, I wrote about my first day in the Navy. Just a short synopsis of what I remember. Interesting experience reliving it in my mind after a half century.

So I'm going to switch gears on the memory trip.

Allow me to think back to a different period in my life.  I want to comment on my elementary school education Or, anyone's education for that matter. Social Media although it is responsible for so many bad things today does have a plus side. I am able to stay in touch with people I haven't seen since 8th grade. Where they ended up, the details of their lives. It's truly amazing thinking about those people, during those years, and what the school experience meant.

Ok so I am a product of the second half of the 20th century. Society was so different back then. And I cannot help but wonder about the true value of those school years. Do I sound crazy? Irresponsible? I don't mean to be but looking at who we all were in school as kids and who we became. There is very little correlation between someone who was  a "troublemaker" or a poor student (read stupid) and what these people became as adults.. A half century later, who you were in elementary school had very little to do with who you ended up as an adult. Not even close in many cases. So then what was it all about, what was the purpose? We spent years going through that  schooling "process", there had to be a goal there. To mold the individual into a "proper" member of society?  People I know today turned out on the whole to be much better than how I remember them back then. A's B' C' and even F's. failed to predict how a given young person would turn out as an adult. I would even go so far as to say it was mostly a waste of time. Seriously!  The entire school process was badly flawed. I interact with people today  who were "troublemakers" in school and they are Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants. I even went to HS with a guy who was a total loser. And today, He is a federal judge. He didn't pick that up in grammar or high school.

In summary I'm not just describing a few kids here. Most of my peers and most of what we learned about life back then was wrong. And useless as far as actually navigating adult life. That sounds so negative I realize. But, I'm just calling it as I see it. As I said, Social media is a wonderful tool to stay in touch with others throughout life. And I'm going through a period of looking back and taking stock. The good,  the bad. and all the "stuff" in between.

 What say you then?

Comments are welcome.

Be safe.

Friday

I could say TGIF but I have been retired since 2009. That doesn't apply in my case. For the rest of the workers though, TGIF! Holiday Weekend too. Last big one of the summer of 2025.

I do not do political "stuff" on my blog However this week, once again  horror of all horrors.  Another school/church shooting. All the details are out there so I need not bore you. But a mentally ill young person chose to take out his hatred of the world and himself by shooting up a Catholic Mass at a Catholic school.  And sadly the media is crazy obsessed with defending  the Trans "community".  Guns are the problem. Trump is the problem.  Never the guilty ones. And now a new issue, prayer. Leading Democrats all speaking out against prayer. Waste of time. we shouldn't be doing it. So the cultural war opens a new front. Against Prayer. Democratic party is I believe the party of satan. They are certainly following a satanic agenda. And they are becoming more bold. Nastier. When does it stop? I don't know. I only have one word. PRAYER. It helps I don't care what anyone says.
Enough for now. I do not like political discussion. This is political yes but more so now it is a deep seated moral issue. When a society decides that abnormal behavior is not only acceptable but encouraged, We are done. Or close to it.

If you disagree with my opinions here, I don't care. I will pray for you.

God help America

Catholic School

EAT THAT HOT DOG

1960's St Patrick grammar school. 1st grade. Lunch time. On that day, lunch was boiled hot dogs. They smelled gross. I didn't want any and said so. Sister Mary Ninja, who's real name was lost to history many years ago stated in no uncertain terms : "TAKE A HOT DOG AND SIT DOWN AND EAT" Very nasty woman. Nuns of that era included many of these bullying sadistic "Holy Women of God". So I was trapped. I sat and choked down the disgusting frank. And gagged. And gagged again. And stood up directly in front of satan's sister, and I threw up. Projectile vomited the meal I had been forced to eat. Of course she was furious at me and shoved me away from the mess on the floor. Just one of my many Catholic school fails from over the years. The memory, always there to this day.

I TOLD HER I DID NOT WANT THE HOT DOG!!!!!

Worst part.. I told my mother when I got home, she slapped me. Nuns were to be obeyed. Nuns were divinely inspired and thus were always right. That really sucked.

Maybe I should send this to the new Pope. See if he reaches back through time and rights a wrong from the Catholic schools evil days. Inquisition 2.0. Nope. not gonna do that.
